Uber Drivers Cancelled & Reject Customers Based On Destination?
Uber Drivers Cancelled & Reject Customers Based On Destination?
As Uber prepares for its busiest night of the year, New Year’s Eve, some complain Uber drivers are canceling rides based on destination.
The app-based, ride-sharing company's cancellation policy for riders charges them a fee after two to five minutes, but drivers' cancellations are often unreported.
Drivers often text passengers to confirm a "final destination" and will cancel if they do not want to drive them there.
Imagine yourself at a gas pump. You’ve swiped your card, selected your grade, and you have the nozzle in your hand – you’re ready to pump.
Suddenly, the entire gas station goes dark.
Within seconds, it’s back up and running but with one major change….
The price of gas per gallon just doubled. WHAT? You’re about to be charged two times the amount than you were projected to be charged just moments ago.
This may seem far-fetched, but this exact scenario is happening to Uber riders across the country. Riders are requesting Ubers and drivers are confirmed – only to be cancelled minutes later so that the driver can benefit from surge pricing.

"You think it might be a discriminatory practice, or you think they're not gonna make enough money on you, so they're not gonna take you there," Ben Levy said Wednesday at BWI Marshall Airport.
An Uber driver can be deactivated, or essentially "fired," if they refuse too many trips. Uber's "Deactivation Policy" says high-quality drivers "typically have a low cancellation rate less than 5%."According to WhoIsDrivingYou.Com

I know it's not a coincidence that my @uber driver just canceled as they announced surge pricing. #shady— Bern Coh (@berncoh) August 20, 2014
@Uber_SEA Called cars 2x tonight, only to have each driver cancel near arrival - and then mysteriously surge pricing was enabled! Classy.— Alex Cox (@acoxcae) June 28, 2015
.@Uber the amount of times uber drives accept rides and then cancel based on destination or surge pricing is ridiculous....— Alex Richanbach (@AlexRichanbach) June 22, 2015
